South Florida Nursery Continues to Expand Offerings
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 2010
Medallion Nurseries of Homestead Florida continues to expand it’s product lines and growing capabilities with it’s recent acquisition of all container tree material and various other assets from the now defunct Flagler Wholesale Nursery. Flagler Wholesale Nursery, (Skinner Nurseries) located in Bunnell Florida and Cresent City Florida, fell victim to the worst recession in decades and was forced to close recently. Jack Osman, owner of Medallion Nurseries, saw an opportunity and grabbed it, salvaging millions of dollars in container trees that might otherwise have sat idle, “dying on the vine”, in a closed down tree farm. “This nursery is one of, if not the first, tree farms to grow trees in pots (containers) in the country. There is a lot of history here.” Most tree farms prior to Skinner Nurseries founding in 1973, grew trees in the ground. Growing trees in pots was revolutionary at the time. Over the years, Skinner Nurseries became a national leader in the production and sales of container trees. “My thoughts are with the Skinners and I hope to see them recover quickly from this set back. They are leaders in our industry”, says Mr. Osman. “That being said, this is a great opportunity for Medallion Nurseries to add to its current product line and offer a more complete product assortment to the landscape trade. We have worked hard over the last two weeks to bring these farms back up to snuff and the GATES ARE BACK OPEN FOR BUSINESS.” Medallion, founded in 2003, grows and distributes a large variety of tropical plants and palms, shipping material all over the country. Earlier this year, Medallion acquired the assets of several central Florida distribution centers to make purchasing and picking up material easier and more cost effective for many central and north Florida landscapers and developers. “We want to make it easy for landscapers to do business with us. It’s all about convenience, having the right product at the right price at the right time”, according to Jack. “We hope to be a valuable resource to the landscape trade for years to come.”
